Market update No. 42-2018 – Sultanas new crop 2018

2018-08-06 | Last week Turkish winegrowers started cutting vines and placed fresh grapes on the drying beds. Last weekend we saw rain in the growing areas. The forecast for the next few days predicts further rainfalls hence farmers suspended harvesting and drying.

The most important growing regions witnessed continuous rainfalls in July 2018. This is quite unusual for this region and too late for the current harvest! Due to the advanced growth stage of vines farmers were advised by experts/agricultural economists not to use pesticides preventative against fungal infestation or other diseases. The residue level of pesticides in the produce would be too high to comply with EU regulations since the vines were not able to break the pesticides down.
