2024-02-22 | State of play for Turkish sultanas crop 2023/2024
The worldwide total production of sultanas ( no Thompsons ) is short, with about 190.000 MT. The three big players are Turkey, Iran, and Uzbekistan; in the current crop, they produced 150.000 MT less. Only Turkey`s production for export is down by 60.000 MT.

Some forwarders admitted earlier last December that the Suez Canal situation could offer shipping lines relief from the financial stresses of a soft market after the pandemic peaks. This morning, the shipping Line MSC informed us that starting 21 January 2024, they will ask for an "Emergency Operational Surcharge "of USD 1.500,00 p. 40-foot container. Hapag Lloyd did the same for all shipments from European Ports to US West – East Coast Ports.
