The new crop harvest is progressing. The Bulgarian farmers harvested already 40% of all fields. The yields are low, and production is only 20% of all sunflower seeds. The main reason is the drought in Northeast Bulgaria. In this area, farmers started to harvest two weeks earlier as usual and finished already. We are expecting higher yields in the Northwest and South of Bulgaria coming soon. The quality and yields are increasing day by day. It is a piece of good news.

The Turkish farmers just started with cutting the fresh grapes in Izmir/Manisa-region. More often, the farmers recognizing that edges of the grapes did not develop fruits or they are empty with fruits. The timing is not good, and the sugar content of the fruits is very low with 16–17 Brix. The target sugar content is 20–22 Brix. Early harvest and low sugar content end up in very light fruit with low test weight and small yields per acre.

Yesterday the USDA has published a report regarding the harvest situation in Russia (see attachment). In July we saw temperatures of up to 35° Celsius in the various cultivation areas. At temperatures exceeding 29° Celsius, we have no bee pollination anymore. The forecast for the 2020 harvest has been reduced by 1,5 million mt. to 14 million mt. (-10 percent). Yesterday The Russian government has recognized the fact and reduced the export quota to 100.000 mt. This is almost nothing!
